'One Day'

About this painting

This original painting is based on a photograph taken by Gillian on the Isle of Bute in Scotland in the midst of the 2020 pandemic. As with many of her other pieces, the scene has been depicted in almost a distorted way with vivid underlying colours to convey a sense of nostalgia and magic. This painting captures a moment of stillness and a sense of freedom in lockdown. To create this painting, Gillian sketched the key features of the source image onto a textured mixed-media underpainting and then gradually added layers of vibrant colour in acrylic.

I love the colours and the essence of the painting. I can just my two little grandsons looking out and being mesmerized by the ship. I love it.”
